Top 3 Dairy Weight Loss Snacks

Perfect weight loss snacks should be packed with nutrients and ideally provide you with between 150 and 200 calories to keep your energy levels up. These healthy snacks should also preferably contain 10 to 15 grams of protein and 5 to 10 grams of fiber to help you feel full between meals.

Weight loss snacks should also keep your metabolism revving so that your body can burn more calories even when you are resting. They should also prevent your blood sugar from rising too sharply after they are consumed since leads to the storage of sugars as fat in the body.

Weight loss snacks should also be delicious so that consuming them does not trigger feelings of deprivation. These perfect weight loss snacks can be obtained by combining a fruit with a dairy product.

Yogurt and Berries

Yogurt is a great source of protein which makes you feel satiated much longer than foods with low amounts of protein.

1 cup (8 oz) of plain yogurt provides you with around 6 grams of this filling protein.

Though this cup of yogurt contains around 200 calories, low fat yogurt has even less, averaging around 100 calories per cup.

It is also a good source of minerals like calcium and magnesium and the B complex vitamins.

Yogurt can be consumed with an assortment of berries which sweeten it naturally and reduce the urge to snack on calorie dense soft drinks.

Berries are also good sources of fiber which makes you feel full for long. They also contain other nutrients like vitamins A and C.

To prepare your healthy yogurt berry snack, add half a cup of blueberries (50 calories) to a cup of low fat yogurt. You can also blend them to create a blueberry smoothie.

Milk and Apples

Milk is another good source of protein which can help sustain your energy levels and keep hunger pangs at bay for several hours.

A eight ounce cup of whole milk contains 8 grams of protein and vitamins A, B and D as well as minerals like calcium and potassium.

This 8 oz cup of 3.25% milk or whole milk provides 150 calories. A similar cup of 2% milk provides 125 calories while that of 1% milk gives 100 calories.

To prepare your healthy milk snack, simply pair a cup of low fat milk with a pear or an apple since they both contain around 100 calories each. These fruits are also good sources of fiber which make the snack even more filling.

Cottage Cheese and Avocados

Cottage cheese is another excellent source of satiating protein which can be used to make a dairy weight loss snack.

¼ cup of creamed cottage cheese contains around 55 calories and lots of calcium. It can be paired with avocados because they contain arginine which has been shown to burn fat (1).

These creamy fruits also contain ample amounts of hunger-curbing protein and fiber. They also contain some satiating healthy fats and B complex vitamins, potassium and magnesium.

To prepare your healthy cottage cheese and avocado snack, remove the pit from half an avocado (150 calories) and fill it with a quarter cup of creamed cottage cheese.

  1. Glad to hear my yogurt habits are healthy! I’ve got to say that I love avocados. The thought of eating them with cottage cheese may sound good In theory, but I don’t think I could do it without retching. 2 out of 3 is good, I guess!😉
